Sara Dubois-Phillips

Executive Director

A senior communications and fundraising specialist with over 25 years’ experience in the non-profit, corporate and media sectors, Sara has worked in New York, Washington, D.C. and Vancouver. She has a proven track record in event creation and production in the non-profit sector, and as Director of Marketing and Communications for Canuck Place she established The Canuck Place Adventure Challenge and the Gift of Time. Sara has a background in Broadcast Journalism and began her career in radio as a newscaster for BVLD in Smithers. She is passionate about children’s causes and has worked tirelessly both personally and professionally to improve and enhance the lives of children in need with organizations such as BC Children’s Hospital, Lift the Children, BC Kidney Foundation, The Looking Glass Foundation for Eating Disorders, Pacific Autism Family Centre, the Vancouver Aquarium and Arts Umbrella.



Cathy Hunt

Director of Grants & Special Events

Cathy first became involved with the CKNW Kids’ Fund as a reporter with the radio station, following her graduation from BCIT. She left the radio business to become a music teacher and raise her family, but continued to volunteer and fundraise every year for the charity. In 2006, Cathy returned to CKNW full-time to join the Kids’ Fund team and is currently Director of Grants and Special Events. She oversees the allocation of our funding to special needs families and organizations, and coordinates the annual Kids’ Fund Picnic at Playland for 3,000 special needs children.



Michelle McLean

Finance & Administrative Coordinator

Michelle joined the CKNW Kids’ Fund team in October 2014. Previously, she was the Marketing & Business Development Coordinator for Paul Mercs Concerts, implementing marketing and promotional plans for music tours across Canada. Michelle is an accomplished vocalist. Always one to volunteer, she most recently lent her voice to the Music Seeds International children’s project “Favourite Things.” In her spare time, Michelle performs regularly in the Lower Mainland with her band O’Hara Lane. She also does commercial voiceover work.

Wally Oppal

Senior Counsel – Boughton Law

Wally is an experienced counsel and strategic advisor. His practice focuses on alternative and traditional dispute resolution as well as Aboriginal law.

In 2005, he was appointed as Attorney General of British Columbia and served as Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism until 2009. A lifetime resident of British Columbia, Wally has dedicated his entire working life to the pursuit of social justice and community safety. Wally’s service to the public of this province, most recently as Commissioner of the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry, is of special significance.


Lara Dauphinee

Managing Director – Fiore Group

Lara Dauphinee graduated from the University of Western Ontario, and in 2001, was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff to Premier Campbell for ten years.

In 2011, Lara joined Frank Giustra and Fiore Financial Corporation, and now holds the title of Managing Director, the Fiore Group. She also serves as a Director of the Vancouver Board of Trade, Pure Freedom YYOGA Wellness Inc., Alter Eco Americas Inc., The Great Ontario Food Company, Pacific Autism Family Centre Building Committee, Telus Science World Chairman’s Committee, CARE Canada I am Powerful Council, the Radcliffe Foundation, and various other philanthropic committees.

Chris Tsoromocos
Managing Director at Maxam Capital Corp

Chris has an extensive 15-year background in private equity and public market investing. Prior to joining Maxam Capital Corp., he was a senior executive at Stern Partners, a well-established private equity firm with 18 portfolio companies based in North America that collectively generated $2 billion in sales and employed 7,000 individuals. Chris was actively involved in a wide range of investment activities for Stern Partners, and has also worked for leading investment banks in Canada and the United Kingdom. Chris has a broad range of investing and advisory experience including acquisitions, divestitures and equity and debt financings across a variety of industries including real estate. He serves on numerous boards and is an active supporter of not-for-profit and community initiatives.

Sandra Garossino
CEO – Intellex Legal Management

Born in Vancouver, Sandra was raised in small-town Alberta before returning to Vancouver to attend university. She practiced law as a Crown prosecutor for a number of years, with special emphasis on youth crime and gangs.

Sandra is founder and CEO of Intellex Legal Project Management Inc., a recent startup company that employs technology innovations and contracted services to drive down legal costs. She sits on the SFU India Advisory Council and has ties to UBC’s Asia strategy through her support for the Institute for Asian Research, the Advisory Council of the Indian Summer Festival of Arts and Ideas, the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration, and sits on the Patrons Circle of the Vancouver International Writers Festival. She and her husband also support a school in India.

Past board memberships include the Vancouver International Writers Festival, the Public Dreams Society (which produces Illuminares and the Parade of Lost Souls), the Alliance for Arts and Culture, and the Vancouver Biennale, which Sandra co-chaired. She chaired the Alliance for Arts’ Advocacy Task Force, and served as a volunteer consultant for the BC Association for Charitable Gaming, which represents the interests of thousands of BC charities and non-profits affected by provincial gaming grant policy.

Sandra’s long record of service to the charitable and non-profit community led her to co-found the Vancouver Not Vegas Coalition, successfully opposing the expansion of Edgewater Casino on the BC Place site.

Sally Dennis, Partner
Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP

Sally Dennis is an experienced lawyer in the areas of business succession and estate planning, including planned giving. After obtaining law degrees from Oxford, UBC and the University of Victoria, she practiced at a major Canadian national law firm for a number of years before stints in law firm management and as general counsel at Intrawest. She returned to private practice in 2008. Sally is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and is on the executive of its Vancouver branch, and holds a certificate in family enterprise advising from the UBC Sauder School of Business.

Chris Gailus
Anchor – Global BC

Chris Gailus is a Canadian television news anchor and currently the host of Global BC’s News Hour. With more than 25 years of experience in broadcast journalism, Chris is recipient of many prestigious awards, such as the Emmy Award for Best Single Morning News Program, multiple Canadian Screen Awards for Best Newscast Large, and his most recent Canadian Screen Award for Best Local News Anchor in 2015. Outside the newsroom, Chris supports many non-profit organizations like BC Children’s Hospital, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, Room to Read, and organizations that support research and treatment for Diabetes and Arthritis.

Larry Gifford
Senior Program Director – Corus Entertainment Vancouver

Both the Manager of Talk and Talent for Corus Entertainment in Vancouver and Sr. Program Director of CKNW, Larry Gifford has been working in broadcasting for over 25 years. After a decade of reporting and anchoring for news and sports outlets across America, Larry became a successful program director, leading major stations including KIRO-FM in Seattle, KSPN-AM in Los Angeles and the ESPN Radio Network in Bristol, Connecticut. He is also the owner of Larry Gifford Media, where he serves as an international radio consultant and talent coach. Over the years, Larry has worked with and helped to raise millions of dollars through radio events for many great organizations including CKNW Kids' Fund, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, The V Foundation for Cancer Research, and Treehouse benefiting Foster Kids in Washington State. In 2012, through his leadership, KIRO Radio won the National Association of Broadcaster’s Crystal Award for the station’s year-round dedication to community service.

Brad Phillips
General Manager – Corus Entertainment Vancouver

With over 25 years of experience in the radio and television broadcasting industry, Brad Phillips has held numerous titles such as Program Director at Moffat Communications, Vice President and General Manager of Chum Radio & Television and Vice President of BC Operations at Astral Media. He is currently the Vice President and Head of FM Radio for Corus Entertainment Vancouver and is also serving as the President of the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters.

Chris Philips
President – Fairborne Homes

As the President of Fairborne Homes, Christopher Philips is extremely knowledgeable about the Vancouver residential real estate market. He is passionate about delivering not just more than the average homebuilder, but also a Fairborne Residence with vibrant living spaces within a pleasant community. Over the years, Chris has been awarded winner of the Urban Development Institute’s Award for Excellence in Urban Development, where Fairborne has created some of the Lower Mainland’s most memorable homes.

Angela Racette
Senior Manager – Commercial Card Account Management, Global Transaction Banking

Born in Vernon and a long-time Greater Vancouver-area resident, Angela has spent almost two decades building a professional business development career, volunteering with several key organizations and raising a healthy family. Key career milestones include developing the Corporate & Institutional Sales Program at Chapters/Chapters Online, building the Spend & Payment Solutions portfolio at BMO across public sector in British Columbia and more recently growing Managed Services partnerships with Xerox Canada. Angela’s volunteer activity has included fundraising for partisan organizations, hands-on support of several major sporting events such as World Police & Fire Games, Vancouver/Whistler 2010 Olympics, the PGA’s Greater Vancouver Open/Canadian Open (several times) and local support for Canadian Blood Services, Family Education & Support Centre and Salvation Army.

Jessica Bouchard Associate Director, The Polygon Gallery

A creative and resourceful fundraiser, Jessica Bouchard has enjoyed two decades of fundraising success in both the public and private sectors. She has worked as the lead fundraiser for the largest visual arts organization in Western Canada; crossed over to the private sector and successfully raised a real estate private equity fund of $120 million; and is currently the associate director of The Polygon Gallery, which, under her leadership, has just successfully completed the capital campaign for its new home, which opened on Vancouver’s north shore waterfront at the end of 2017. In addition to her work with the CKNW Kids' Fund, she also sits on the board of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.

Mike Searson
Director of Sales – Corus Radio Vancouver

Mike started his career as a golf professional at the Vancouver Golf Club in 1994. He transitioned to radio sales in 1999 and has not looked back. He’s held many leadership positions within Corus and currently is the Director of Sales, which includes leading a team to market leading growth with some of the top radio stations in the city (CKNW, ROCK101, CFOX and AM730). Last year, Mike was honoured by Corus with a Samurai Award for his work contributing to the innovation of Sponsorship sales and nitration on CKNW. For the past 16 years, Mike and his team have worked to support the CKNW Kids' Fund during Pledge Day, The Picnic, and Pink Shirt Day. He feels privileged to have the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful charity for so many years.
